Two Kit Foxes Get Into a Fight
I'm pretty certain this wasn't the first time nor the last time for these siblings
Most of the time the young foxes on San Juan Island just hung around. They slept, or they sat, or they wandered. Life was not very busy for them.
While resting, they did not ignore the world around them. At 6:55 PM one little fox noticed Dad approaching.
The photo below was taken as the adult Fox, which I presumed was the father, was returning with a snake. The next minute was when the adult and the kit interacted due to the snake prey. You may want to refer back to that June 27 post to catch up on the events which caused the following quarrel. And, yes, that kit Fox is licking its lips in anticipation.
Anyway, Dad brought the red kit Fox the snake and the young fox took it back behind the hedges somewhere. Then the young black kit Fox came out, sniffing Dad's breath for the prey. Dad walked off and the black kit confronted the red kit. The discussion ensued!!!
The action was quick.
Clearly, the red kit seemed to have the upper edge.
They growled and tumbled around.
The feelings were strong!
But quickly the red fox asserted itself....
...and the fight was over as quickly as it had begun.
Everything calmed down after that.
Ah! Run fox run!
What a capture!
What a treasure to have been able to watch this in action! Thank you for sharing. So cute!
