Some years ago, a mated pair of vermillion flycatchers hunted in my Catalina Vista front and back yard every day. There was plenty of traffic noise from both Campbell and Grant, not to mention sirens and helicopters from UMC. The birds nested in a small nearby park. I think the keys to seeing them in the city are to grow plants that attract pollinators and then to refrain from poisoning those and other insects.
Years ago, I had the pleasure of taking my daughter to TUSD1's Camp Cooper; one of the activities was dissecting owl pellets and we found complete mouse skeletons inside the pellets, very cool! The funny thing was most of the kids that day were monolingual Spanish, one of the kids yelled out, "es la Caca" and that was the end of the experiment. Couldn't convince them any different!
Interesting! I’m sharing this with my friends!
Thanks Janine. I'm glad you are sharing this.

How nice for you. Having a neighborhood mini-park and lots of insects is the key!!
I loved reading this and all the photos are fantastic!
Thank you very much!
Wonderful right time/right place photos!
Yes, exactly!

That's a very funny story. Perhaps those kids needed several more weekends at Camp Cooper until they could trust what they learned as new information.
Really cool!
thanks Steve
