About Dan

I am a Tucson native.  I enjoyed growing up in Tucson which was a much smaller town "back then".  I remember playing with lizards and ants in the yard and building forts made of tumbleweeds.  To me, Tucson has always been sounds of doves waking me in the morning, the smell of a summer rain, the mountains and desert, the beauty of our sunsets and the equally mesmerizing sight of our fleeting sunrises.

I went to college in Massachusetts and then returned to Tucson, beginning a career in Public Education.  I taught in Special Education, became a supervisor and then spent twenty years as an Elementary School Principal.  Upon retirement in 2013, I took up photography and began birding more regularly.  (The photo above was taken shortly after I received my first camera. I was shooting in Sabino Canyon and still had dark hair!)

Those two hobbies blended well and I have shared my photographs over the years through presentations to a number of groups as well as through a personal newsletter to friends.  My photographs have been featured in a variety of local media and I have had photographic exhibits in a number of local galleries.

I like sharing my photo images with others.  With a focus on nature and an emphasis on birds, this site allows me to share my photographs.  I enjoy observing bird behavior and sharing my experiences in the field.  I hope you enjoy the site as well.
