Dan, you are so fortunate to have a family of screech owls that are so close to your house. What an opportunity to watch them sit on the nest, hatch the eggs, and be with those babies until they fledge. That is so incredibly awesome!
So Cool, Dan! What a glimpse. And to have the ‘techno support’ to get these “bird’s eye” views! (Sorry, had to work in a little Norwegian ‘word humor.’)
This is so interesting Dan. Thank you for the info and photos. Can you share with us how high the box should be placed and if it needs shade or a recommended orientation? You note that you can watch it from your window so I assume there isn't a concern about her flying into the glass? I've had western screech owls at my fountain several times and would love to welcome them to the back yard with a box.
Tucson Bird Alliance has boxes for sale and information on their website with ideal nest box location hints. I had a successful box for years about 12' off the ground and facing SW. The one being used now is about 8' off the ground under the patio and facing south (towards the house).
Wow! What a treat.
Thanks Kari. It sure is!!
What an amazing experience to capture all! Stunning pictures. Thankyou!
Thanks Marylou. I enjoy it and will try to keep everyone updated.
Thanks for documenting and sharing your owl family!!
Thank you Michele
