The previous email had too many photos in it for me to include the following ones. Those prior photos showed the bobcat lolling around in the shade on my back porch with a hint of something beginning to happen:
Finally, after a few hours of nap time, things shifted. The bobcat got back up on the sitting wall. Apparently it head and then spotted some quail in the desert. After what seemed like the longest time, the bobcat lunged towards the birds, crashing through the brush and racing towards the quail family.
I saw that quail family erupt and scatter in all directions as the cat lunged and chased the birds behind vegetation, out of my sight. I wasn't sure whether or not it was a successful hunt. Several minutes later, I saw the cat come back out of the desert. It had nothing to show for its efforts and it walked around the back of my house.
I, too, ran but inside the house and towards the front door. I propped it open a tiny bit and looked towards the side of my home where I expected the bobcat to emerge. Within seconds, it walked across the driveway. It glanced at me and then looked towards something that was under the large Texas Ranger plant.
While the bobcat was on the driveway, a cottontail bolted from under the back of the Texas Ranger and darted off in the opposite direction, to the west. The wildcat came around the plant in search of that elusive rabbit.
But the rabbit was gone, and all of the doves and quail in the area had disappeared as well. The bobcat gave me one more look
And then it turned and trotted off away from my yard and across the street. That was several hours of entertainment for me. I wish I could see that cat more often, but I'll remember this visit for a long time. Although I wish I had witnessed a successful hunt, this sure was a fun adventure to witness.
The last email inspired a friend who is spending her summer in Britain to send me this card:
FYI, I won't be sending another email out for almost two weeks. Things will be busy around here. I'll "see" you in July.
