A few days ago I glanced over at a corner of my patio and noticed something unusual in the shade under the potted plants there. With binoculars, I could see that it looked like a bobcat was resting in the cool and moist corner to escape the 100+ temperatures in the direct sun.
Needless to say, the next few hours were spent staring out the kitchen window and waiting for the cat to become active. I only see the bobcats every few months, so it is a treat when they do appear. It was impossible to get a good look at the wildcat from inside the house but I had to stay there in order to not spook the cat. When it did awake, I slid the kitchen door open a tiny bit and poked my head (and camera) out for a better look.
For much of the next hour, the bobcat and I played peek-a-boo. It would change positions, look around, check me out, but it always remained in the same shady spot.
Sometimes it would close its eyes, but it might stand for a bit, then drop down again. It wasn't going anywhere.
At one point it emerged from underneath the pots for a better look at its surroundings. I imagine it was looking for where prey might be found
I thought it was going to leave at this point. It was searching over the wall and to its right.
Still, it was in no rush. It got on the wall, and then got off again. It was looking around in search of easy prey. It had all the time in the world.
And then it got back off the wall and behind the pots, before carefully emerging once again.
At that point, it decided to just have a staring contest with me. It was alert but relaxed, and very focused.
....very relaxed, and very focused........The only thing sticking out from my kitchen doorway was my head and my camera.
Finally, things changed. The next email will let you know what happened!!!
