Final Shots of Hummingbirds from the Huachucas

Plus another “guest” from under the ramada

I’ve shared photos of Violet-crowned Hummingbirds, Rivoli Hummingbirds, Broad-billed Hummingbirds and Broad-tailed Hummingbirds that were present at Beatty’s Guest Ranch in Miller Canyon. That location and others in the Huachucas are wonderful places to find Hummingbirds and the numbers present during migration season, both spring and fall, are outstanding. There were Anna’s Hummingbirds present.

Rufous Hummingbirds were passing through.

This Rufous Hummingbird was coming in for a landing. Rufous Hummingbirds do not like to share their feeders and are very aggressive in protecting them from others.

Even perched, Rufous Hummingbirds are always on the lookout for any Hummingbird they think may be an intruder.

Black-chinned Hummingbirds were around wearing their clerical collars.

We were intent on watching the dozens of Hummingbirds that were buzzing around us. At one point another guest asked, “What’s that above your heads?” We looked up to see a large Orb Weaver spider taking its prey up its web and towards the ceiling above us. It had wrapped up what appeared to be a large fly. I’m not good at spider identification but this may be a Cat-faced Orb Weaver based on the black spots on its back.

After the spider retreated into a crack between the boards above us, we returned our gaze to the birds around us.
