A little over a year and a half ago I had the privilege of seeing a great horned owl from just several feet away, it was dusk, and I was leaning against the house looking at the back yard, I didn't hear it but there it was, it had caught a rat, {under my bird feeders} I couldn't believe how large it was, then it lifted off and was gone as quietly as it had come. Since then, I have seen it a couple of times in the very top of the pine trees, but mostly I've just heard it in the evenings, on rare occasions.
